Sorry that I missed the Film Fest!  I was busy working on a group project that took longer than expected.  I hope that it went well.  Feel free to visit Wiki on Wiki to discuss any of your personal experiences with Wiki and how you used Wiki to organize the Film Fest.  Thanks! ~ Young Jessie

4:20pm

So things here are progressing...slowly. Power has become sustainable as far as we know and the windy day has turned to calm. As night approaches we are preparing for our first screening of a film. Discussions have commenced as to which film will be shown first. Check back soon... TB

2:50pm...still waiting

So, everyone went off to find things to make this work, and I'm guarding the gigantic speakers and amplifier and projector in the yurt out here, reading "The Monk" and wondering if there will actually be a "film fest" or if it'll be a day to play in the sun (or the yurt) and not study. Who knows? All I know is that the spinach is planted, Jackson has a mohawk, and CoCo bakes delicious cookies.

I Don't Want to Wait in Vain For...Film Fest

I know, it's not in vain. Watching everyone scramble around fiddling with different electrical apparat(i)(ae) has made me consider paying attention to the next time my brother hooks something up for me or my neighbor down the hall has to clean out my slutty computer. Then at the NEXt REUNION film fest, I too can fiddle with the cords and alternate power sources!

"Technical Difficulties"

1pm

The setting up phase of the festival is still underway. Fortunately, Jackson has been providing us with delicious freshly squeezed orange juice to sustain our energy for the extremely fair price of $1 a cup. Come out and enjoy the refreshments! Available for a limited time only!

We're installing the speakers in the Yurt as I'm writing this. We're missing a red and white cable. Mobius is talking TAZ and copyright law and societies of control while we wait for the cords and other audio-visual materials for screening movies. The technical difficulties should be ironed out any moment now.

TheBoogieMonster has brought stencil art to the Center and is wearing stylized a t shirt with text reading "DAMN THE MAN" (front) and "SAVE THE MOVIES!" The stencil artwork will be posted in the prefab trenches that a student made at the site for a WWII movie.

Snacks-wise, we've got a variety of tasty treats. For the discriminating health nut, there's grapes, animal crackers, aforementioned orange juice. I brought chips and Dr. Pepper. Coco just deposited three bags of chips and chocolate chip cookies on the Yurt bed. The Yurt is becoming increasingly sustainable...

Our numbers continue to grow! There are over ten people now. I'm going to sign off to take some photos. Stop by sometime in the afternoon if you can! -Houdini

It Has Begun!

12:15pm

This is our live Film Fest blog where we'll post updates on the event every hour. This is also a guestbook where visitors and metaprogrammers can post responses to the films and activities at the event. Please come out if you're reading! So far we've got 5+ people, including mini-mobius (Jackson!) and some friends of SOC Film Fest group.

The first two films to be screened are Blade Runner directed by Ridley Scott and Total Recall directed by Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop, Show Girls) sometime during noon, once we get the projectors set up. Each film should run about 2 hrs. You can come any time, though, and we'll either fill you in on the story or you can come up with your own storyline and/or remix the movies. Afterward, we'll discuss the movies and play board games and make stencil art during the 30 minute intermission.

Here's some IMDB info on Blade Runner and Total Recall:

TOTAL RECALL

Douglas Quaid is haunted by a recurring dream about a journey to Mars. He hopes to find out more about this dream and buys a holiday at Rekall Inc. where they sell implanted memories. But something goes wrong with the memory implantation and he remembers being a secret agent fighting against the evil Mars administrator Cohaagen. Now the story really begins and it's a rollercoaster ride until the massive end of the movie.

BLADE RUNNER

In a cyberpunk vision of the future, man has developed the technology to create replicants, human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth but with fixed lifespans. In Los Angeles, 2019, Deckard is a Blade Runner, a cop who specialises in terminating replicants. Originally in retirement, he is forced to re-enter the force when five replicants escape from an offworld colony to Earth.
