Understanding Brain Frequency

 

 

Neurofeedback is a technique that presents the user with real-time feedback on brainwave activity, as measured by sensors on the scalp, typically in the form of a video display, sound or vibration. The aim is to provide real-time information to the Central Nervous System (CNS) as to its current activity.

 

Biofeedback is a technique that presents the user with real-time biological feedback by measuring a range of biological factors such as blood pressure, heart rate, skin temperature, sweat gland activity, and muscle tension.

 

Often the two terms Neurofeedback and Biofeedback are used interchangeably though they signify different methods. Biofeedback therapy usually incorporates neurofeedback techniques, while neurofeedback therapy (neurotherapy) measures only brain frequency.

 

 

Brainwave Activity

Brainwaves are measured by an electroencephalograph or EEG. Electrodes are placed on the scalp and measure the electrical activity of the brain in Hertz, which is then transfered and displayed in wave form using different methods.

Subthreshold 10-Hz Sound Suppresses EEG Theta: Clinical Application for the Potentiation of Neurotherapeutic Treatment of ADD/ADHD

This study implants different ranges of Hertz tone within pink noise suppressing the range of EEG Theta. The combination of Hertz tones and pink noise creates a slow beat frequency called SUB/ALPHA that is concluded to increase concentration.
