Everyone has their own experience of Everything. That said, the literature describing the use of cannabis suggests that it is indeed a plant worthy of the label "psychedelic.". In some religious traditions, it is a teacher plant that one must learn how to learn from, and learn how to use. In sacred contexts - such as that of the Santo Daime or Rastafarians as well as the saddhus of india - cannabis is certainly capable of inducing effects assocated with compounds and plants dubbed "psychedelic" such as psilocybin, mescaline and LSD. "Psychedelic" originated in correspondence between Aldous Huxley and Humphrey Osmond and was meant to erase the bad connotations of "psychotomimetic", the term then in use for the scientific study of altered consciousness. Huxley and Osmond wanted it to mean "mind manifesting", whereby the mind becomes aware of itself. A previous term, and one i like very much, is "phantastica", used by an early German toxicologist and ethnobotanist, Louis Lewin. Lewin included "hemp" in the phantastica. But in the end, "pscyehdelic" is .. a word. After thosuands of pages of studies, we can say one thing for sure: Psychedelics or "entheogens" or "ecodelics" present a wide variety of effects and are highly programmable by context, "set and setting". This includes the words we use to describe them! It is interesting to ponder the effects of a war against this plant on the actual experiences people have with the plant. - flobius/mobius
