How is it "wholly man made" if it starts with the genome of another bacterium? :)

 

Were any women involved in the project? Do bacteria or bacteriaphage or their products play any role in the creation of Synthia?

 

Also "code" and "map" don't really map onto each other as metaphors in the paragraph above. I think the "map" terminology came from "linkage maps" that began with studies of Fruit flies in early 20th century.

 

Finally, the computer code analogy is not such a good one, as it tends to obscure the way wetware feedbacks back onto software. Cf. Doyle "One Beyond Living". There is an extra copy in mobius libary if yins wish to consult. - mobius
